چکیده

This paper summarizes recent contributions on the transmission capacity of ad hoc networks. Although it is notoriously difficult to derive general end-to-end capacity results for ad hoc networks, the transmission capacity framework allows for quantification of achievable single-hop rates by focusing on a simplified physical/MAC-layer model. By using stochastic geometry to quantify the multi-user interference in the network, the relationship between the spatial density and success probability of transmissions in the network can be determined. The basic model and analytical tools are first discussed, followed by summaries of results that capture the effect of important network parameters such as the fading distribution and path loss exponent. Design choices, including direct-sequence versus frequency-hopping spread spectrum, the optimal number of sub-bands under a rate constraint, interference cancellation, an optimum channel-strength threshold for scheduling, power control exponent selection, and the use of multiple antennas are investigated. The paper closes by discussing shortcomings in the model as well as future directions.

Transmission-Capacity Trade-Off for Coexisting Cellular and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

In practice, radio spectrums allocated to cellular networks are usually underutilized. To increase the spectrum usage efficiency, we studied spectrum sharing between a cellular uplink and a mobile ad hoc networks. These networks use either all uplink frequency sub-channels or their disjoint sub-sets, called spectrum underlay and spectrum overlay, respectively. Given these methods, the capacity ...

Broadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach

While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...

Capacity Enhancement of Ad Hoc Networks using a New Beamforming Scheme Based on ESPAR

This paper proposes a new smart antenna beamforming scheme based on electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR). The proposed method is capable of providing better capacity compared to the conventional ESPAR. The termination of each antenna element in this structure comprises a PIN diode in addition to a varactor. Using PIN diode besides the varactor provides more degrees of freed...
